I was bored and bought Bioshock Infinite the other day, $60 just gone right off the credit card! To Steam's credit, it dŒs have amazing things going for it and as an older gentleman I do not have to go into a PFY store and feel out of place

Although new Triple A titles are the same price as stores, you can probably keep yourself entertained for years just by buying whatever is on sale. They have Grand Theft Auto 4 on sale this weekend for $5. That's cheaper than going to the movies and you'll spend more than a couple hours playing it.

Since you haven't played a lot games in the past few years, and have an amazing looking computer I would recommend the following games:

Knights of the Old Republic (1) and (2) are on Steam for $10 each. Story is fantastic and gameplay is very fun.

I know you posted in the RPG forum, but I really enjoyed Assassin's Creed series for it's story and action.

Of course you will need to pick up The Elder Scrolls! I suggest playing through Oblivion first and then Skyrim. You can really crank up the details in Skyrim through mods to make it look gorgeous.

Enjoy your new DS rig!

Grappling and other related nonstandard combat maneuvers greatly simplified.

Instead of a process of multiple rolls and/or different requirements for maneuvers like grapple, trip, disarm, bull rush, etc., it has been distilled to one roll. Continuing processes like grapple persist, but still only require one roll per action.

2. Melee class progression at all levels greatly enhanced, and higher levels significantly so.

Fighters get a stunning level of feats and abilities, as do rangers and paladins. They all excel at bringing the pain, and can be specialized at another layer using archetypes(see below). Within their purview, rogues are also very dangerous.

3. Slight hit die increase for rogues and arcane spellcasters.

Exactly what it says. Up one die size.

4. An additional layer of character customization.

Archetypes are templates you can apply to a character which trade out regular class features for other, often specialized class features. A fighter(for example) could be a shield specialist, a phalanx team member, two-weapon wielder, armored tank, or two-handed weapon specialist. Each class gets a variety of archetypes, though the spellcasters have a smaller selection, because...

5. All classes gain progressive bonuses that can be applied toward flexibility or focus.

For spellcasters, they get domains, schools, and bloodlines(and other stuff), depending on type. Each of these choices grants additional spells, abilities, and other factors. They are ALL significant, and very much shape the caster. Many caster classes gain additional abilities or changes to existing ones(Wizards and bonding). For non-casters, depending on class and archetype, they gain skills and unique abilities, bonus feats, and direct modifiers to things such as saves and combat maneuvers.

That's a few off the top of my head.

I've had much more fun playing it than anything Wizards has done in a long time. The best part is that you can play with a single book(the Core Rulebook). You don't *need* any other books to get started.

Of course, we know how well that works, what's a little upgrade here or there...

Book stores, Amazon.com and gaming stores for example. Since you never played before, the best advice I could suggest is find a local gaming store. Besides having all sorts of games and customized dice, they generally have a gaming room where people gather to play. It would be best to see if you actually like it before spending a lot of money.

Wizards Of The Coast

Edited by JerryW - 14 Dec 2012 at 9:06pm
