Thank you all for your advice. I did end up having to get the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 mobo because the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe was out of stock.

I wish I was able to run with the suggested ASUS P9X79 DELUXE, but that would have ran me way past my budget with shipping and tax. I live in California so tax alone cost me around $300.

Additional 200mm no led fan on top ran an extra $30.00. Hi bryx3,

If your primary usage is going to be image processing, especially video editing and 3D animation I agree with bprat22 go with an X79 platform since those applications make use of the extra cores and bandwidth.

Also you might want to think about the choice of GPU as image processing makes use of GPU compute performance and Open GL. Until this newest generation Nvidia had the advantage, but that has dramatically changed, as giving up compute performance appears to be the compromise  made to keep the die size small while increasing gaming performance. You can see results for various cards in an Open GL benchmark here. Processing still images in CS5 makes relatively little use of the GPU so the choice of card probably dŒsn't matter much there. But rendering and video processing do so I suggest you try and get some expert input on how much the differences in compute performance between the GPUs will effect those applications. I also think it's very likely that use of the GPU will only increase with future generations of image processing software.

I had selected blue as well, but as bprat pointed out the front fan is a red LED fan.

@ bpratt - Thanks for that other configuration option! I'll look into the x79 platform as well.

@ jmo - we share great tastes then lol. Since you've already ordered, let me know if DS suggests you go with a different cooler. That was one of my concerns that DS would suggest I go with liquid cooling. I'm paranoid with that sort of technology.

As for the lighting, I was under the impression that the HAF X would come without any lighting (not even red even though pictures show the awesome red glow) unless you specifically selected that option. Same assumption gŒs with the fans as well.

Bryx3, your posted build is identical to the one I just ordered, except I have the Phantek cooler not the D14, which are very similar

I went with the P67, but you may want the z68. I tried giving you the same SSD and HDD but the config builder is messing up.
 
I put in the i7-3820 4 core cpu to save you $300, but if the 6 core i7-3930k would be better, just add it if you wish.
 
The X79 dŒs give you double RAM channel over the p67/z68 mobo and also gives you 2x16 lane pcie slots for your sli 680's.  The p67 would give you 2x8 lane.  Don't think it makes a big difference now, but might in the future. 
 
I changed cpu cooler to H100 even though I like D14 air cooler better.  But, DS says they need the H100 to keep things cool with the X79, stage 2 oc and multi-gpu setups.
 
I put in Win7 Pro in case you wanted to go over 16GB ram in the future.
 
If the X79 platform isn't needed, and you want to save a few hundred bucks, then your build was great. Avelict's advice on mobo would be the only potential change, but either is great.  Z68 is newer and has features you might or might not need.

If you want something a bit bigger, go with the  Dell UltraSharp U2711, it will be more but 3 inches is definitely noticeable when it comes to monitors, runs for $980 on Newegg.

Hey there bryx3, welcome to the forums! I'll go first but I expect others to chime in with different things as well.

To begin with i would recommend changing up your motherboard to the Pro Gen 3 Z68 board, and the reason i say that is due to the Z68 board will help 'futureproof' you rig for a bit longer. The Z68 board will be compatible with the new Ivy Bridge CPU's due to release later this year, whereas i don't think the P67 will, but I'm not absolute on it.

The other reason I say the Z68 board is because it has what's called Smart Response Technology, it allows faster access times which will be beneficial to 3D rendering.

Other than the board I see a great build, maybe go with some faster RAM if your budget allows it, a lot of my friends that do 3D rendering generally have RAM with speeds at 2133Mhz.

Hey all,

I've been reading this forum for a while and have been waiting for the new NVIDIA GPUs to come out. Now that they have, I'm ready to make a purchase. However, my question is, should I wait until the Ivy Bridge comes out in a few months? Granted there's always something new in the tech world that gives reason for a user to wait, but I'm not sure if the Ivy Bridge is worth the wait to work in tandem with the GTX 680s I want.

Please let me know your thoughts and whether my configuration should be tweaked! I appreciate any and all feedback!

FYI: I will be purchasing one of the Dell Ultrasharp monitors. Please recommend me one of those with the following configuration below.
