Maxyme, yes, as far as I know, 1080p is 1920 x 1080.


Unless this website is just blatantly lying and making up quotes, it looks like NVIDIA finally "officially" announced the card, as if anyone out there was still doubting its existence.

pretty much sums it up right there, it makes no sense for any decent tech nowadays to not be able to do 1080p

Sorry, most 1080P users are in reference to 1080P televisions, a 1920x1080 monitor will need appx double the power of a 1080P television.

too many variables. can't compare any Dx11 game. High resolutions and high AA can't really compare either.

On old games with medium resolutions, dual 285's will be around 10%-20% percent slower than a GTX 580., GTX 580 SLI, compared, well a lot more frames per second.. lol

GTX 580 will have a lot better gains with overclocking also.

Thanks, I am running gtx 285 SLI @ 1920 x 1200 <native> Might go with one EVGA superclocked 580 for now. Hard to upgrade when my DS rig runs everything I through at it so well. Thinking the DX 11 along with the bump in performance along with less heat / power consumption is the excuse I'll use for now.

I haven't read all the review sites, but many seem to be running into problems getting accurate consumption and temperature numbers. oh na, i have a evga 480 right now im wondering how much it is to switch it up to the 580 with the step up program

oh never knew about the step up program! nice to know! Well if you can wait some time while the 480 is shipped to evga and they are shipping the 580 to you then if i were you i would do it.

Good timing on the release!

I ordered my new rig last Thursday with 2 x 480's and a simple phone call today and I had my order changed to 2 x 580's Black Ops Edition.

The performance gains over the 480's have me very excited....

I'd assume that since the card is no longer sold and tested by DS, and is now an end user acquired card, the warranty will now default to being the manufacturer's responsibility. Don't let this discourage you from the step up program and EVGA though, the step up program is still a very viable solution as you can have the security of holding onto reliable old tech while you wait for new tech reviews to come out, in addition to having the sheer insurance of being able to upgrade to new tech if you felt like it (within 90 days of course).

If you think that's unfair, well hey, you have to think of this from the business sense really. If you ran a business, it's never easy to do things like covering shipping back/forth for a defective product you're already losing money on. Same goes for warranty on products the user adds, would you be willing to pay for a product you didn't pay for in the first place? DS isn't getting anything beneficial from the step up program; remember, your current card goes back to EVGA, not the OEM. Be very very grateful that DS actually still offers you component based warranty for what components they tested in shop, regardless of what you add onto it that they have no idea of and have not tested; most companies wouldn't do that. OEM's like Dell would normally just tell you that your warranty's void the second you get inside the case, because they can't be sure what you do inside of it. I'm assuming that DS is knowledgeable enough about their target consumer that this doesn't really come into play, which is one reason why we like DS so much. Thankfully, a lot of people don't take advantage of it (i.e., using a DS rig as a testbed for new hardware, frying maybe a mobo/CPU, sending it back, getting a new one. Limit of 3 major component failures are covered though, I think Alex said; good idea to prevent people from completely taking advantage of that system)

It's about 20% more powerful than the 480, on average, uses the same or a tad more less power, and is $499.

Doesn't look to bad too bad, but it depends on what you can manage to get a 480 for whether it is worth it to you or not.

personally i think its like from vista to windows 7. it just fixes everything the 580 was criticized for and adds a little bit more.
so to be more detailed little less heat little less power, a few optimizations and a few more cores. oh and its a ton quieter. as quiet as the gtx 295 (i think)
