The new wave of Dual Core processors by AMD (AMD
Athlon X2) and Intel (Intel Pentium D) allow consumers to take
advantage of multi-tasking to a whole new level.
The
main concept behind dual core technology is have the ability to
dedicate both processors to separate tasks. For instance, you can be
burning your DVD and processor 1 would be maxed at 100% while the
other processor would be surfing the web and playing music.
The reason why dual core processors have been
launched by both companies is due to a new barrier of the GHZ clock
speed race. Newer more efficient processors are now being made with
either two cores, small die size, or bigger cache sizes.
The future of Dual core processors is very strong
because it allows unique possibilities. In gaming,
imagine one processor dedicated to computing the games graphics,
while the second processor computes physics, AI, and sound
processing. This bond of two processors will allow a much more
immensely realistic gaming experience.
Dual core technology allows us to bring the power of
high-end server/workstation platforms to home users and gamers. |
